Beyond her award winning career as a writer and actor Joanna is deeply committed to giving back and is affiliated to a number of charities.  She’s passionate about causes close to her heart particularly organisations that focus on community, the environment and history.

Joanna has been a keen supporter of the charity for many years and knows only too well the perils of the sea, after having a near miss on her Honeymoon on the Jurassic Coast.

Joanna is a Patron of her local community volunteer run cinema in Croydon and is a passionate supporter of British and International Independent film.

Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Joanna supports the work of the CWGC in memory of her grandfather Pilot Officer Thomas Patrick Scanlan, RAF volunteer reserve who was killed in action 1942.  His grave in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands, is managed by the charity. She is involved in helping generate testimonies in their 'For Evermore - Stories of The Fallen' campaign. A free online resource collecting the memories and family history of those commemorated by Commonwealth War Graves.

SLiDE 

Joanna is a patron for SLiDE (South London Inclusive Dance Experience) an ever expanding community of dancer, musicians and creatives in Croydon and beyond. The charity's fun, vibrant and creative projects unite both disabled and non-disabled people access the world of performance.
